“What was the surgery for this time?”
“Tempest had an elongated soft palate that, if not taken care of, would cause problems later. She will be able to breathe better and not have issues with gagging later in life.”

“Is she going to be okay?”
“Yes. She is a little sleepy from the anesthesia.”

“Come on, Dad. Give it to me straight. She doesn’t look okay.”
“This is perfectly normal. Her body needs to rest, and traces of the anesthesia cause her to be sleepy.”

“I guess I’ve never seen her so still. When can she play?”
“Her recovery time is going to be at least three days. Playing will be based on how she feels after that.”

“Three days? How are we going to keep her quiet for three days?”
“For one, you can help by not engaging in any incidences of ruckus.”

“I can do that. You must know, though, that she’s the one who usually starts it.”
“I do know that, but you’ll be a big sister and not engage even if she tries.”

“Okay, I will do my best.”
“That’s all we can ask.”

“I must admit I like her as an awake panther better.”
“It won’t be long, Twiggy. She’ll be attacking you before you know it.”
“Don’t tell her, Dad, but I hope you’re right.”

I hope she recovers well and quickly enough to not worry Twiggy.

I can imagine. Our neighbor’s dog was spayed recently and she wasn’t allowed to jump. She always jumps up at me when I’m near the fence (so I’ll reach over an pet her), so I was avoiding her. She let me know that she wasn’t happy.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I’ll bet she wasn’t happy. The no jumping rule is universal.

She seems to be sleeping okay in the photos. I always remember after surgery, my dogs all seemed afraid to go to sleep for a few days in case they woke up again with bits (teeth usually) missing.

I can relate. Tempeste seems to be okay with sleep. Thanks, Keith.

It must be perplexing for Twiggy to see her boon companion laid out like that. Three days is better than a week, though.

As you can imagine, Tempeste is chomping at the bit to get into a major ruckus. Tales all our energy to keep her quiet. There are some drugs that would help but we are not believers in sedation.

Poor Twiggy does look confused, or is it just your dialog that makes it appear that way?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yeah, she had a few moments on confusion. She’s okay now and seems to understand that Tempeste needs to be quiet.

Awwww sweet thing! I’m surprised Twiggy is being so good about it and you don’t have to crate Tempest! Sorry about the surgery. Is this common for the breed? Sending healing woofs your way!!🩷🐶🐾
LikeLiked by 1 person
It is a common trait. Most legitimate breeders test their dogs for markers. Tempeste’s mom was rescued from what we consider a puppy mill and they really don’t care about passing undesirable traits down. We want to correct the problem before it becomes a major problem later. This included her nairs (nostrils) which needed to be expanded for better breathing. That was the last surgery. Thanks for the good wishes, Cindy.

Oh interesting to know John. That makes sense. It’s always the risk you run and never really know if a breeder is legit for that matter either, even with thorough investigation. That’s smart of you to do now rather than later. Oh good, glad you’re done with that and future surgeries💕. You’re so welcome💗

This is a result of adopting a puppy that was rescued from a puppy mill. Those breeders have no concern about passing down dangerous traits by testing the dam and sire. They just want to churn puppies. Thanks for your good wishes, Teagan.

You have every right to feel angry at them. It’s negligent and cruel. When I was in my late teens I got a Pekinese pup — it wasn’t the same issue, but it was a medical/health one. I understand. Hugs.
