Me too, GP. My dad was thirty when he volunteered. The Navy welcomed him, and he served with distinction. I felt the ceremony did him proud.

This is wonderful. There were some very moving ceremonies here in Europe. Even a few left who remembered VE Day.

It is difficult to think how few are still alive. We have one WWII vet here who is 102. He was too ill to make the ceremony.

Great photos. We had a celebration with our neighbours in the street to commemorate the day. So important to remember it.

It is since that generation is slowly fading away.

It looks like a lovely event, John. Thanks for all the photos.
Great menu too. I wasn’t familiar with peri peri sauce & couldn’t resist checking. It sounds delicious. I sooo used to love spicy food. I still would if it didn’t act like a volcano in my stomach… Sigh… for a dish of sliced raw jalapenos with a little sour cream for dipping… Have a wonderful new week. Hugs.

Lovely John!
We do need to remember.
We do have ceremonies for VE day here, but it’s not a big holiday. Same with September 2.
Remembrance Day, November 11, is the big day here. Although originally for WWI Remembrance, WWII is now included.
In 10 days we have a BIG holiday, Victoria Day. We celebrate Queen Victoria who released Canada from colonialization in 1840. It began in 1837, when Upper and Lower Canada joined to become Canada.

With “Spirit of Freedom Monument with the names of all who served from 1941 to 1945.” I assume it must be all the names of those who served from Lakewood.

Another big plus for your community – remembering VE Day. I wonder how long it will be before it’s all but forgotten.
As for the food, I’ll have the steak, which I can’t eat since I am having a diverticulitis attack. I can have the mashed potatoes. And drool.

That monument will make sure that whoever stops by the park will remember. Thanks, Noelle. I hope your attack subsides soon.
