Tajin-Spiced Fruit Salad – Tree fruit, melons, lime, cotija cheese
Let’s get rolling.
The sign reminds us that it is fawn season.
Here on our front porch is a less-than-day-old fawn.
The mother and the day-old on the driveway.
The baby has yet to have a drink of milk.
Three weeks later, baby and mom are doing breakfast. The two in front are yearlings.
A mother and fawn in the greenbelt.
Another mother and fawn in a neighborhood.
Mothers place their babies during the day and tell them to stay put. She is one in a yard.
The fawn on the porch is now three weeks old.
A buck with his velvet-covered antlers.
Another buck helping himself to some plants.
Here is a yearling we have named Sprinkles since he had the misfortune of stepping onto an irrigation cover which became stuck to his hoof when he was just a fawn.
Here is Sprinkles after The Producer enlisted the Game Warden to remove the irrigation cover. You can see that his hoof is a little misshapen, but he is doing well. He visits every evening for his carrots.
Signs throughout Lakeway warn motorists to be cautious regarding our precious deer.
A last shot of Tempeste keeping a watch on the deer. The doe is the fawn’s mother, reminding us it is carrot time.
Time now to enjoy the food and music. I hope you have a great week.
It’s great to know you feed the deer their healthy treats, especially Sprinkles!

I love how your community lives together with the deer. Having a fawn born on your front porch is so special. My fav picture is Tempeste looking out the window at the doe. So cute!

The doe was looking inside, and Tempeste wanted to know why. Thanks, Darlene.

They are so precious. We have at least four generations visit us. The Producer has a name for each one.

Having deer in the neighborhood is so nice, John. The buck will be cleaning his antlers on a small tree or good-sized bush soon. With luck he won’t kill it.

In California, I lost a manzanita tree to a deer rubbing his antlers.

It does happen, John. When we lived on 11 acres outside of Mason, I planted about a hundred trees. The bucks destroyed a few, cleaning their antlers.

I guess they have to do it somewhere.

A less than one day old fawn on your front porch–John, you live well! This is so cute. Good to know Tempeste keeps a watch over thing for you. Does she bark at the deer? My cats make weird noises when they see birds/squirrels in my yard.
LikeLiked by 1 person
She does not bark at the deer. Twiggy is not as controlled, however.

That’s awesome. My mother’s place used to be like this but with mule deer. Drought and such has moved them around in the last few years.

The fawns are precious, and the deer seem to be used to people. I’d love to feed one a carrot, but I bet Tempeste has other ideas! I’d have the BLT if my tummy would take it.
I love this song by the Troggs! Gene and I occasionally sing it if the time is right! It’s a good description of my granddaughter!

I can see the song fitting a granddaughter. It does fit Tempeste as well

Most people leave them alone. There are newcomers who get all worried, but thankfully, they express the worry on Facebook or Next Door, and others can set them straight.

Talk about having nature in your backyard (or more accurately on your front porch!). Delightful photos, John. And those sweet potato waffles sounds like a perfect brekkie to start out June on a good foot (or hoof-poor baby that had the irrigation cover imbedded in his-hope it isn’t too handicapped). Thanks for sharing.

He limps but is otherwise okay. There was a lot of debate about leaving it, but in the end, the wildlife department decided to take it off. It was a painless procedure, and Sprinkles has been a happy boy since. A side note, the cover made him somewhat of an outcast. He was always alone. Now he has friends his own age, and the herd finds him to be okay to hang out..

Aw, the babies are just so cute … and I’d love to touch those velvety antlers! Good of you to feed the deer, John. How well-behaved the babies are, to stay just where mama tells them to. I’m hard pressed to imagine the Monk doing that!!

No, the deer listen to their mamas, unlike the canines.

LOL. My Monk seems to develop hearing issues when he doesn’t like what I’m telling him.

How wonderful that you have deer were you are.
Poor deer that got its foot caught. I hope its okay. They were here first, and as much as we give them carrots, we cause them problems.
They really are beautiful John, thank you for the pics and visit.
(So glad to not see venison on the menu!)

His foot is fine and he mingles with the rest of the herd just fine. Yeah t is too bad that some of our human activity is detrimental to the deer. 🦌X 😊X

Aww, how cute and beautiful these photos are John… I have a lot of catching up to do here. While it must be wonderful to see the Fauns and Mothers close up.. I would think it must also be a gardeners nightmare on plants.. But I could live with that, to see close up these wonderful animals.. ❤ Thank you for sharing John xx ❤

Fawns definitely bring out the protective in me. That picture of Tempeste keeping a watch on the deer. Keeper. My sis found a 2-day-old fawn on her property. Mom not far away. What a treat.

Moms need a break so they tend to leave the fawn for up to six hours.

We have a lot of deer in our area at this same stage. You must live fairly near a wooded area.

The fawn is just precious. I love that the deer stop by for carrots. Bond wouldn’t know what to think if an animal that big showed up at our house. He only knows squirrels, rabbits, and the occasional dog or cat.

John, this is wonderful. A fawn right there on your porch! That was so “squeeeee!” I thought my head would explode. What a splendid act of kindness to work/coordinate to help Sprinkles. Thank goodness that he is in a safer place where his misshapen hoof should not hinder him.
I’ve never heard of sweet potato waffles. That sounds delicious! Big hugs.

I have not tried sweet potato waffles either. May have to do that. The mom is bringing her fawn each night. It looks like it might be getting ready for a carrot. Yes, Sprinkles is doing much better.
