Top Ten Things Not to Do on Labor Day

labor day.

This post ran first on Labor Day 2015 and every Labor Day after that. I thought it was pretty good advice, so here it is again.

In honor of Labor Day, I’ve decided to boil the top ten list down to the most essential items. Let’s all remember those who make our lives easier and more pleasant. Of course, the remembrance includes us authors.

Top Ten Things Not to Do on Labor Day

10 through 1

On Labor Day, have fun, but do not drink and drive. If you do, at best, you are a fool. At worst, you could hurt or kill an innocent person, not to mention your guilty self.

Happy Labor Day, all.

  1. I always had a job where I had to work on Labor Day – so, I resent the mailman getting it off! What’s an old coot gotta do to get some attention around here?

  2. That is certainly a very important advice. We went to my in-laws for a labor day BBQ and I drank an IPA called Tsar Bomba from the Manhattan Project Brewery while grilling. Tsar Bomba was the biggest nuclear bomb ever made. I did not nuke the chicken. Anyway, my wife drove home even though it was just one mile.

    1. Ha ha ha. Been there for sure. At 10.1 % ABV, you have to be careful. The beer is named after the biggest nuclear bomb that has been exploded to date. The Soviets detonated it in 1961. The beer has citrus flavors that I’m not fond of. I’ll bet it was good, though.

  3. Labor day is the last day of the year you’re allowed to wear white. The last time I was in The Hamptons, I made the mistake of wearing white slacks the day after Labor Day. I was never allowed back. And until this day, all the security guards (and cops) carry a picture of me to make sure I don’t sneak in.

    Oh, the shame.
