A new art gallery has been established in the Bee Cave Sculpture Park by members of Lake Hills Service Unit Junior Girl Scout Troop 2065.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the Bee Cave Little Free Art Gallery on July 23.
As part of a troop project to create more accessible art for local communities, the gallery welcomes visitors to leave their own art to share with others or adopt art from the gallery to bring home, a troop representative said.
The Bee Cave Little Free Art Gallery, or BCLFA, has its own Facebook page and hashtag. The troop encourages individuals to use the hashtag when adopting or donating art, and to share the project on social media.
Since we missed the ribbon-cutting ceremony, we are going to the Bee Cave Sculpture Park to have a look. Additionally, we will examine some sculptures that have been added since our last visit in 2022. Here is part I and Part II.
We are catered by 1886 Cafe and Bakery in Austin. Our entertainment is from the movie Footloose.

Thank you very much for taking us there.
Such different art is presented there. We like it that this is the art of ‘normal’ people and not of the famous artists. It’s a kind of art that is hardly ever presented in public places.

I see free little libraries occasionally, but I’ve never seen or heard of a little art gallery. It’s a wonderful idea. I hope it gets enough publicity that others see it, and perhaps create their own.

So, where does the name Bee Cave come from? Is there really a cave of bees around there?

Back in the late 1800s there were Mexican honey bees supposedly living in limestone caves along the river that runs through town. The owner of the general store named the town after them. Today, there are no bees to be found, and it’s likely there never were.

We have several of those little free libraries in my town, too, and I’m always surprised when I see them in use — probably because we have such an extensive Carnegie public library. But I’ve never heard of a free art gallery. I hope it goes over big and maybe expands to other areas. I like the wren house, but the fallen bird makes me sad. Maybe he’s just doing yoga and hasn’t hurt himself??

I love the wren house, John. We’ve had a good run of birds visiting the back yard this year, and I could envision our small winged friends hanging out there. And now…time for my 1886 Cafe bagel.

There’s some impressive sculptures in that park, John! What a great place to visit! I think I’ll indulge in the garden omelet. Goes well with the exercise in Footloose! one of my favorite films.
