Views of the Neighborhood – Lakeway Playscape Tour

Earlier in the summer the City of Lakeway dedicated the new playscape. At the time, other events were going on, so today we are going to visit the playscape. We are catered by Luties of Austin, and our entertainment is Rod Stewart.

Brunch menu

Fruits de Mer – east coast oysters, poached shrimp, crudo

Pistachio Matcha Soft Serve

Matcha Overnight Oats – pumpkin seeds, berries

Petit Aioli

Estate Bread – saffron honey, butter terrine

Turkish Eggs – yogurt, chili, flatbread

Spanish Frittata – hollandaise, treviso

Yécora Rojo Crêpe – maine lobster, mornay

Gulf Shrimp Omelette – smoked trout roe, hollandai

Bagels with Almost Everything | For Two

Oyster Mushroom Hashbrown -fried egg, radish, habanero

Barbecued Gulf Shrimp + Grits

Croque Madame – smoked ham, sunny-side egg, gruyere

Waffle – roasted banana, pumpkin seed

Brioche French Toast – citrus, coconut cream

The bus is ready.

Here is the entrance.

We have to walk through a relaxing area of the Activity Center.

Through another gate, and here we are. The dedication.

A welcoming water feature.

An example of the many games available. There is a crank that activates the game.

Climb the little hill and go through the log. Those mushrooms in the background provide sound when struck with a mallet.

Modern-day teeter-totter.

Wind chimes provide a relaxing background.

The Producer was brave enough to climb to the top of the play structure.

Here is a view from up there. Swings, the fountain, and those snake-looking things are more instruments.

On the other side of the fountain is a tortoise sculpture.

As we leave, we see a little more information about the play scape.

  8. My grandkids would LOVE this place – so would I. I still enjoy swinging! How wonderful that the city has this!

    As for food, I am becoming southern, so it would be the shrimp and grits!

    1. One of the swings has a place for a child, and opposite the child is a place for the adult, complete with a holder for a phone, allowing photos to be taken of the child.

  9. The playground looks like a fun place for children and adults. I see that the planners were smart and put up shades and put down light-colored ground. Here in Tallahassee, several years ago, they constructed a playground at a local park and laid down a BLACK ground cover of chewed up tires. It wasn’t long before parents complained of their kids getting burned when they fell on the ground.

  15. I so enjoyed studying the Playscape. Our school is getting ready to upgrade our playground, but we’re still at the ‘collecting ideas’ stage. Yours is really wonderful! My only surprise is water. That would be a big no-no here. Thank you, John.

  16. Wow, teeter-totters have really evolved over time, haven’t they? Who knew! I’m surprised y’all had the playscape to yourselves for the photos — I’d have thought it would be a madhouse of kiddos! It’s the water feature, though, that I’m especially impressed by — such a thoughtful addition.

  18. It looks like a lot of fun can be had there, John. You didn’t say how the Producer got down…through the slide?

    I’ll try the smoked ham, sunny-side egg, gruyere. I’m a bit late, but they can toss it on a roll.

  23. That’s a very nice playscape, John. Thanks for the tour. I went down a couple of rabbit holes looking up the Matcha Soft Serve. That sounds delicious! I’d be happy to have that for breakfast. The Rod Stewart song is the perfect touch (or palate cleanser). 🙂 Have a brilliant new week. Hugs.
