Thursday – A Little Personal – Twiggy and Tempeste in Conversation

“Wow. That sun feels good on the face, Twiggy.”

“Tell me about it. We haven’t laid out for quite a while.”

“Why don’t we do this more often?”

“You tell me. I don’t know why.”

“Being inside on a day like this is a crime.”

“Well, all we have to do is get Mom or Dad to open the door, and we could do this all the time.”

“I wonder why we can’t open our own doors?”

“We have no thumbs, remember. Besides, the knob is way up in the air.”

“What about a doggie door. You know, I’ve seen them on Instagram.”

“Problem is, all kinds of critters could come in there, too.”

“Oh yeah. I could just see that smart-assed squirrel helping himself to one of our beds.”

“Not to mention that skunk who wanders by now and then.”

“Yeah. In fact, he came by last night. I can still detect his essence.”

“Can you imagine meeting him at breakfast and having a disagreement. No thanks.”

“Great point. I’ll bet Mom would love having a skunk eruption in the house.”

“I think we’d better lose the idea of a doggie door.”

“Oh, hi, Dad.”

“What are you two talking about?”

“Oh, we were just weighing the pros and cons of a doggie door.”

“What? My doorman role is not up to par?”

“It’s not that. We just wanted the freedom to come and go.”

“Believe me, if you had a doggie door, you would miss the pleasure of seeing your Mom and me waiting on you two.”

“You are right. Forget the idea.”

“Done.”

Well done, John. Bravo! If they keep Ma and Pa tending to their needs, their royalty is secure. 😄 BTW, I recently saw an upside-down door with the glass window on the bottom. The owner explained that his dog could now see outside. I immediately thought of your two and chuckled, because you’d have a noisy household with that arrangement!

Love the expressions on their sweet faces, John! They are definitely enjoying the sun. We have cat doors on our externals doors, but they are locked since Raji and Wendy are 100% indoor cats. We used the external doors when we were giving shelter to a few neighborhood cats (all of whom eventually became indoor cats). But it was not without misadventure.

One night I heard a commotion on our screened porch. FOUR raccoons had come through the cat door and were checking out the porch. When I turned on the light, they scrambled to get out. It was actually hilarious to watch. One raccoon ran in circles until he realized where the cat door was. Still, even though they couldn’t get into our house, it was a good reminder that critters will do what critters do.

“Problem is, all kinds of critters could come in there, too” – that is a good point Twiggy. We used to have a big doggy door that even our big Leonberger dog Bronco could crawl through. The problems was that so could I and I am not a small man. Sometimes when we locked ourselves out of the house we just crawled into the house via the doggy door. It was convenient that way. However, my wife thought that if we can crawl through the doggy door so can a burglar, even a fat one, so we decided to get rid of it.
