The Producer’s photo of a gardenia while walking with Twiggy.

Red and purple crepe myrtles.

A while crepe myrtle.

A pink crepe myrtle (R), esperasza (L), baby sage (lower R), and magnolia (background)

Another pink.

A beautiful white.

The sage beside our driveway.

The Producer’s hibiscus (R) and cone flower (L) with vinca in the middle.

Okay, how did she get in here? Shussssh. Let sleeping dogs lie.”

A giant purple crepe myrtle.

A large lilac-colored crepe myrtle.

Time now to enjoy the music and food. I hope you have a lovely week.

Some years ago, the crape myrtle was designated our state shrub, but there was a fuss raised because it’s not a native plant. So, the sage (or Cenizo) was designated our official state native shrub. Compromise can happen!

Good move, though. I love sage.

Basking in the blossoms, John. They are so welcome, along with a sleeping doggie. We’ve had a black snoozer here this weekend, with a gimpy back leg, so will have to see her vet when she gets back to the Twin Cities.

Gimpy legs do need attention for sure. Thanks, Joy

John, beautiful little excursion this morning. I especially loved the pink Crepe Myrtle. I planted one recently in remembrance of Diane.

Amazing. You have some beautiful flowers. We don’t have crepe myrtle here. At least I haven’t seen it. Charlotte always gets two hibiscus. She puts one in the front and one on the deck in the back. We can always see them. We tried the tall ones but they got too big. The bush type work perfectly. She uses the red to attract hummingbirds.

We have a lot of crepe myrtles in bloom in our neighborhood, too. Except for ours for some reason, although it’s healthy, How does the sage overwinter? I’d love to have some here, and we a similarly hot, hot in the summer.
The heat dome that has been so awful for the last week is finally dissipating. But temps are still in the low 90s.
The plantain pancakes looks great!

The sage takes a hit when it frosts. Any long-term cold causes it to retreat back to the roots.

But it comes back the next year. I’d love to have some here.

so pretty to see – many of our neighbors have stopped planting flowers or flowering trees, and as a result there is much less color

That is too bad that they stopped.

Your gorgeous crepe myrtles make me homesick for Texas, John! I understand a certain variety can grow here, and one day, I plan on having at least one again. The gardenia is lovely as well, and I’m impressed at the bus upgrade. Tempeste looks completely relaxed — our dogs have it so good (and probably don’t realize it!) Guess she’s sleeping off the Scary Boom Day ruckus from yesterday!
