A brand new year with the promise of a new beginning. It is funny how one day can be so different from another. Yesterday was so last year and today is what is happening now. I hope everyone had a lovely New Year’s Eve. Mine is usually pretty mild. We normally have a nice dinner and then pretty much sit and do what we always do. A little talk, some iPad time and one hour of a favorite show that has been pre-recorded. We are usually in our reading room (a euphemism for the bedroom) well before midnight. On New Year’s Eve, we don’t make an exception. Of course, we do have to put up with the tourists who think it is legal to shoot off fireworks on the beach (it’s not). So we have an interlude of explosions and idiots yelling from midnight until about one o’clock. Maybe I’m being persnickety but I think the choice of being up for the new year should be mine.

It is Friday again and seems like these week’s go by faster and faster. I am very happy to report I have my Christmas shopping compleated. Completed shopping means I can actually look forward to the day without the usual last minute panic situation. I did give the gift ideas some thought this year and, as a result, was able to plan. Planning meant I could take advantage of shopping on the internet and not worry about the five to ten ~~year~~ day shipping time.

So now all I have to do is wrap the gifts and sit back and hum Christmas carols. Wait. Relaxing and enjoying just doesn’t seem normal. Maybe I’ll worry a little about if the gifts are the right thing to get. Ahhhh that’s more like it. Today’s John Ku talks about the season.

Here we are to the last workday. This week was so beautiful here. The sun was out all week and it was like a refreshing break from about two weeks of gloomy weather. It seems all things go better in the sunshine. Here is a photo of some hibiscus that are blooming their hearts out right now. During this holiday season, they seem especially festive. A nice reward for all the rain.

sweet revenge

Well, we have hit Friday again. This week it seems Friday came up and smacked me in the face. I didn’t have a lot of time to wish for it to arrive. I looked up and there it was. My favorite day. Last night I had a My GRL and His Revenge book signing and out of it came a delightful drink courtesy of my wife. She named it His Revenge since she mixed Sweet Revenge liqueur with lemon-lime soda. The liqueur is described on the label as “Wild Strawberry Sour Mash.” I think that just about describes the drink with the added value of 77 proof. The Revenge part comes the next day. Today’s JohnKu discusses the mystery of the morning after.

Black Friday

Here we are BLACK FRIDAY. I don’t know about you, but I’m staying in the house. I have to rest up for the Baylor Bear football game tonight. They are playing those TCU Horned Frogs. In our house, we have a high affinity to Baylor. The prime reason is that we sent a small fortune to Baylor along with the youngest. The other reason is we like to watch them play. They have a fast tempo that is exciting. They are capable of running a play every 19 seconds and usually can manage a touchdown in under two minutes. This kind of pace leaves you exhausted from watching and cannot imagine what the opposing team feels. The TCU/Baylor rivalry goes back some years but came to a head last year when the Big 12 voted Baylor and TCU as co-champions. Neither team felt the other deserved the title. So this week marks a chance for bragging rights. Let’s hope they fall (the rights) to Baylor. Today’s John Ku talks about team loyalty.

Fireball friday

Another Friday. next week at this time the entire United States will be out in the stores duking it out for those gift bargains. I’m glad my shopping list does not include children’s toys. It is almost a necessity to go rumble with the masses given how much kid’s toys cost these days. I can be thankful that my list is rather subdued and most of the items would not be found on sale at the big box stores anyway. So I’m just going to chill at home and wait for Ciber Monday to come around on November 30th. When it arrives, I will pound my keyboard and try to fill my cart while everything is available. I just hope everything will be available. Oh yes, Happy Friday. We made it. This week started with a return trip from Detroit that was a nightmare. Flights cancelled, lightning, fog, no food, and very late arrival. Today’s JohnKu talks about home. I hope you like it.

Friday the 13th

What a couple of weeks this has been. This book promotion stuff can wear you down. I’m sure my steady readers now know I have a new book titled His Revenge. At least I laid off the regular stuff during the busiest time so that the notifications were kept down to a dull roar. I appreciate everyone who helped spread the word on the launch. The reason I thanked each publicly is I was taught to send a thank you note when receiving a gift. I considered each of the posts about His Revenge to be a gift and wanted the giver to know how much I appreciated their help. As of today, there are only three more blogs about His Revenge. One today, one on Monday and one later in November. I’ll just say this is like a political campaign and for now the WordPress media part is almost finished. One final group 4Wills Publishing should be thanked for setting up a tour with Rave Review Book Club members for last weekend. It was a bunch of fun, and I welcomed their help. My JohnKu today is a reflection of how I feel about the support I have received.

Friday at last. Long week this week. I had a bunch of things to do, and it seemed everything I needed to do took more time than originally estimated. The result was less got done, so it became a little frustrating. All’s well that ends well, however. By the end of today, I will have all the to do’s done. Friday here at last. We finally have been getting some rain. The Gulf looks like a boiling pot of navy beans, and the water is right up to the dunes but at lease our reservoirs are getting an excellent refill. This week saw a bunch of book activity. I have a tour starting with 4Wills Publishing on November 6th and did manage to get the posts written. I am currently in the process of updating all the various places where you can list your book for free. When I introduced My GRL back in 2014, I was a younger man. Right now my eyes hurt from squinting at the update various forms. I am happy that all is going according to plan, and I will be sending an e-mail out soon to those nice folks who offered to help spread the word. I plan to announce the launch of His Revenge on November 1st so the month of November will be pretty occupied with launch activities. Today’s JohnKu talks about being prepared which is a good idea when it rains or when launching a book. I hope you like it.

It is Friday again and I have to say I’m glad it is here. This week was a buster. I finally got the book ready for paperback publishing. This next week I hope to get the e-version ready. On top of that I need to line up some guest posts and will be sending out requests. The regulars know I sent out a call for volunteers yesterday for a blog tour to support what looks like a November 2 launch for His Revenge. Keeping fingers crossed everything works. There are so many things that need doing. I guess anything worth doing requires a lot of effort. Today’s JohnKu talks to this point.
