Friday Again so Soon – Ha Ha

a skydive

We finally made it to Friday. I have to say this was one hell of a week. I am working on my third novel and have set a goal to write 1000 words a day. This week I fell short. Not because I didn’t want to write , but I was busied out with projects needing done and pets needing help. It wasn’t as bad as I thought not achieving my goal, so I now need to whip myself into a frenzy and get back on the horse. It reminds me of the old question when faced with something which you believe has dire consequences. “What is the worst that could happen?” Once you face that question dealing with the issue is more manageable. So when I was pulling my hair out about missing daily numbers, I asked myself, “What is the worst that could happen?” I figured the worst would be a week’s delay in finishing my book. Since I don’t skydive, if I finish my book a week later than planned, it is no big deal. I don’t think the world will even notice. Okay I feel better. Now to the Margarita. Oh I almost forgot the Haiku. Here it is:

Worst case by John w. Howell ©2014

Worrying too hard,

About phantom dire results . . .

Breathe in deeply peace.

Egads! I’m under deadline stress too! I have to have a notebook full of 16 life drawing complete and handed in by Monday, and then I have an essay, 3 fully rendered illustrations and back-up work submitted, six comic book pages, and I’m pretty sure there’s something else that I am forgetting! Unlike yourself, I cannot delay these by a week 😦

I feel your pain. This is the only good part about being old.

Enjoy the weekend. I’ve always been curious about daily/weekly word counts. If you lag behind one week, but run ahead another week then wouldn’t that even out a bit? Do people really stop at their exact word count for the day or do they go until they reach the end of a paragraph/chapter section?

Depends on what is going on. The 1000 is a minimum in my experience.

That makes sense. More guidelines than the rule.

It is actually my forth. The first is in manuscript form holding the laundry room door open.

You are way ahead of me. I am trying for a mere 500 words and some days can’t get that accomplished. Some days I do 3000….so I feel okay. Some days I am lucky to get one sentence. Right at the moment….I’m stalled. Not good. I will probably try to write over the weekend. At any rate…I am having the margarita 🙂

Stay away from those airplanes with fifty passengers and only forty-nine parachutes. Happy Friday John!

Perfect response to your stress, John: What’s the worse that could happen? I had a counselor pose the question to me when I was stressing out about grad school. The worst would be not finishing grad school. And my life would continue. I’m living proof that the worst is so not bad 😉
