Friday JohnKu – AKA – TGIF

Friday

It is Friday once again and eight hours till the weekend. I was very pleased to get the first copy of the cover for Circumstances of Childhood. It looks interesting and with a few minor tweaks might just be the one. This is the fourth cover by this artist, and she has been able to come up with a design each time that has worked.

Once we get to the final, I’ll post it. It will be of interest what you think. As I have said this is a new type of book for me, and I have even had to struggle on the genre. I think the elements of the story put it into the realm of spirituality. There are thriller and paranormal aspects as well. I think I’m going to go for General Fiction>Spirituality>Thriller>Mystery.

Today’s JohnKu talks about genre and how to decide. I hope you have a great weekend.

The book is finished,

Now, I need to describe it. . .

How’s “You can read it.”

  1. Short and sweet – just like our childhood days! 😀

    1. Yes it is true. Too short I think.

    1. Yes, it is special. Sorry but this comment went to SPAM for some reason

  4. A spirituality thriller. Sounds really interesting.

    1. Still not sure. Wish I had a way to nail it. I just have to take my chances.

      1. Life is boring without taking chances. I vote for calling it a spirituality thriller and starting a trend.

      2. I could also have a second category spirituality mystery. Thanks, Charles.

      3. Good one. Putting those into the keywords can open up a bunch of categories for you.

  5. Your new book sounds like a different kind but interesting, John. All the best. I love the with-it doggy at the top. 🙂 — Suzanne

    1. Darn, Jan. I thought I could go an easy route. Not to be. Thank you. 😀

  10. Blended genre books are so hard to tag. Marketing them is even more difficult. I wish you luck.

    1. Thank you, Staci. I’ll just have to go for it. This is a problem when you write a story that you want to write and don’t keep an eye on where it fits. 😀

  11. I’m just about to start the book cover process myself John. Looking forward to yours and facing mine with anxiety!

    1. Yes. I could say the same. Thanks, Noelle.

  12. Good luck with the genre classification – wish I had a constructive suggestion, John. However, I feel your pain. Looking forward to its release!

    1. Thanks, Craig. I’m working it now.

  14. Eager to see the cover and hear more about this one, John. What urged you to switch genres? Something tells me Dallas would NOT like this rocker-chic meme!!

    1. I just wrote the story and didn’t concern myself with genre. I didn’t think Dallas would like it. Too low class.

  15. Excited to see the cover and very intrigued with your description, John.

    1. Going to be different for sure.

  16. Your talent doesn’t change regardless of the genre tweaks. You’re still the best.

    1. Aw. You are the best, Ionia. Thank you so much. You just made my month.

      1. I’m getting back into the swing of things again. I will be around more. 🙂 missed you.

  21. This JohnKu made me smile. I often struggle with how to categorize my books as many of them cross genres. Circumstances of Childhood sounds intriguing and the type of novel that attracts me. I look forward to the cover reveal.
