Spent another week editing and in erudite discussions with the insurance company. We all know about editing, so I will concentrate on the insurance company discussions. I was in Lowe’s picking up drywall screws on Wednesday when my phone rang. I was all excited because my caller id told me it was my adjuster. I had left a message on Monday to the effect of wondering the status of an additional claim I had submitted four weeks earlier. To my surprise, it was not my adjuster at all. It was my new adjuster. NEW ADJUSTER????? What happened to the other guy who never returned my calls, texts, or emails and who I have spoken to only twice in two and a half months of trying to get my home repaired? Oh, he has been transferred to another department. Sure he has. Okay, what about my additional claims? The answer, “What additional claims?”
Ye gods, do something to stop me from getting in my car with a very large baseball bat, driving to Austin, and causing a hurricane on the insurance company headquarters.
I explained the deal. The insurance company had appraised the damage at one price. The contractor bids are coming in at two to three times that price. Wow, was he surprised? I had to ask the question, “If you had 3000 jobs waiting for you would you really do one at a discount?”
He said understood. I sent the paperwork again and just between you and me, I’ll bet I’ll be doing a JohnKu one month from now with the same theme. Speaking of JohnKu, this week’s talks about available resources. Hope you have a great weekend.

Geez, that’s ridiculous. Hope you get that sorted out and it doesn’t become a long line of adjusters. ‘The previous adjuster was sacked for incompetence . . . We have now sacked the people who did the sacking for their incompetence.’

Oh gosh, I’m so sorry. It is agonizing dealing with the aftermath of a catastrophe. The initial heartbreak is compounded by the heartache of dealing with outside entities like adjusters and insurance reps. Hang in there…

Makes so much sense to me. Why would a contractor speed things up or offer discounts under these circumstances? There is a law about taking advantage, but I doubt it’s of much use. Hope your poetry next months indicates some progress.

Insurance companies are a nightmare John. This will be dragging on for a while. No doubt there are numerous others in the same boat. You will get there in the end.

I applaud your restraint in not bellowing out a banshee wail in the middle Lowe’s. So frustrating that people have to go through this kind of stuff with insurance companies. I do hope the new adjuster is a lot more efficient and concerned about his claims than the old one.

Maddening, isn’t it, John! We are paying dearly for our coverage already and I can imagine the cost of yours out on the island. I have hear similar horror stories but a few have been taken care of in a reasonable amount of time. Contracts are swamped so they are not willing to discount. We could not get them to even call us back so Husband handled the minor one or two we had. TGIF to you!

It is maddening. I have fixed several things myself. Could not get a fence guy to show up so I did the work my self. I fixed the drywall in out first floor as well. Other things I need a pro. Thanks, Jo. 😀

Horsefeathers, John. That’s awful. I was going to say that I had just the thing… but I can’t find one or even a picture online… But several years ago someone gave me (and I passed it on eventually) a stress toy. It was just a funny man’s head in red squishy stuff. You could pull his ears or nose, or mash his nose up inside his head… Great for when people tick you off.
