Thursday – A Little Personal – Lucy and Bailey Reflections

Lucy and Bailey

“So Lucy. What do you think about the year? It is almost New Year’s Eve, and I wonder if you have some thoughts about 2017.”

“Boy, Bailey. You are pretty philosophical for a hound.”

“I’m a boxer, not a hound.”

“Just an expression.”

“Back to my question.”

“I’m thinking. I guess I will have to call the year a challenge.”

“How so?”

“Just listen to that hammering. It has been going on for weeks.”

“I know, but it is a sign of progress. We had a Hurricane after all.”

“Not to mention evacuating to Austin.”

“Yeah, that wasn’t so pleasant. But we did avoid the flying siding and stuff.”

“I know. I was glad not to have been here then.”

“Okay, that was the Hurricane. What else?”

“I miss Stella.”

“I know. I do too. She always seemed to have the perfect word for any occasion.”

“Not to mention fun to chase.”

“We have to believe she is happy. She had a long life of love.”

“I agree. Well,Β in any case, I’m thinking she has a lot of mice that need catching.”

“Excellent thought, Lucy. Let’s keep that vision in mind.”

“Beyond those two events, 2017 was not really a bad year.”

“I have to agree. You know we have it pretty good.”

“I would say.”

“I think I’ll make a resolution for 2018.”

“Okay, what is that? Boy, my eyelidsΒ are getting heavy. Might be the thought of making a resolution.”

“Lucy you are such a slug. You know that?”

“How about a little nap before we move to 2018?”

“Okay, I see your point. When we wake up, we need to make our resolutions.”

“Hmm. Oh sure. When we get up, that’ll be the first thing we do. Well, besides a scratch.”

“And a drink of water.”

“And maybe a run in the yard. ZZZZZZZ.”

  1. I loved everything thing about this post, John. It’s the perfect way to close out 2017!

    1. Thank you, Jill. πŸ˜€

  2. I’m with dear lady Jill! Delightful, John! Stella’s still around in those corners and shadows! β™₯

    1. Thank you, Billy Ray. I think you are right.

  3. Oh, and special hugs for the NEW YEAR to Bailey and Lucy! β™₯β™₯

    1. Thank you, Billy Ray. Happy New Year to you.

  4. I just adore these conversations. Wishing you and yours a wonderful new year.

    1. Thank you, Staci. Happy New Year to you as well. πŸ˜€

  5. Lucy and Bailey summed up 2017 beautifully. No rush on 2018! πŸ˜€

    1. Thank you, Jennie. I think they will take their time.

      1. I think so, too. πŸ™‚

  6. Appears reflection is an energy-draining experience. Probably the reason it is a once-a-year experience. …. and I miss Stella, too … losing pets is difficult.

    1. It is. Thank you, Frank.

  7. You have to have priorities, John. These guys seem to have it all figured out.

I love the photos. Give them both a scritch from Maddie.

    1. One scritch coming up. Thanks, Dan

  8. Boxers are the best! Ours was called Samantha. She was a brindle with a black face and winning personality. I still miss her. Sorry.

    1. I hope the memories of Samantha provide comfort. I know I still miss several fur babies but do have lovely memories to cherish. Thank you for sharing, Pam.

  9. They have the right idea about the naps.

    1. They seem to know when a nap is in order.

  10. A great recap of the year. Their expressions really tell the story! πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you, Jan. πŸ˜€

  11. Best wishes to Lucy and Bailey for 2018. Oh yeah, and you too, John. πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks, Greg. Happy New Year to you and your crew as well.

  12. I miss Stella too, but they are right–she’s happy chasing plenty of mice. A charming conversation from a charming pair. Happy New Year, John!

    1. Thank you, Mae. Happy New Year to you as well.

Oh, the wisdom of our 4-legged family members. Thank you, John, for this endearing exchange. What a beautiful way to start the new year. Best wishes to you and yours! πŸ˜€

    1. Thank you, Gwen. Happy and Prosperous New Year to you and yours as well.

  14. That sounds likes the perfect schedule to slip slowly out of 2017 and gently into 2018! Happy New Year’s to you and yours, John! πŸ˜€

    1. Thank you, Jan. Happy New Year to you. πŸ˜€

  15. Oh my goodness… they look so comfy and cozy. Last January when “the big they” (whomever They are) said the year of the Fire Rooster was going to be full of challenges, I didn’t want to believe it. Horsefeathers! 2016 and its mean old monkey was bad enough. But they were making an understatement. Here’s hoping the year of the Earth Dog will be a friendlier critter. Have a thriving Thursday, John!

    1. Let’s hope so, Teagan. Thundering Thursday to you. Hugs.

  16. I hope you all, 4-legged and 2-legged, will have a good 2018,

    1. Thank you, Pit and the same to you and yours.

  17. Dogs make great philosophers — well done, gang!!

    1. Thank you, Debbie. πŸ˜€

I agree, I think a little nap is called for before 2018:) Happy New Year!

  19. They do miss Stella! So sweet as they sum up the year, not a bad one. Many of us could say the same thing…we have it pretty good. They are such buddies! Wonderful dialogue!

    1. Thank you, Jo. Yes, we have it pretty good.

  20. Change is hard, John. I’m grateful you have each other to find smiles in. I know it seems strange, but I miss seeing her here. β™‘

    1. She did have a blessed life. Her last days and passing could not have been any more peaceful. Thank you fro missing her, Audrey.

  21. The poor things miss their friend. We went through something similar and it’s easy to see they mourn. Hope they have a better 2018, and all of their people do too.

  22. Love your doggie’s dialogue! Perfect for what they’d say! Yep, a snooze and a few more things to do before a 2018 resolution. Never make resolutions. Hope the Earth Dog Year will be better than this one. Not born in a Dog Year, but… Happy New Year, John! Christine

    1. Thank you, Christine and Happy New Year to you and yours.

  23. I think they summed up 2017 quite well. I miss seeing Stella here and I’m sure they miss her as well. Hope your 2918 will be happy, healthy, and filled with prolific writing.

    1. It’s early – that was 2018

      1. Of course, you are the first to wish me a good 2918 so all is good. πŸ˜€

      2. 🀣🀣🀣

    2. Thank you, Michelle. I wish you peace, health, and many laughs. πŸ˜€

      1. Thank you. 😁
