“Hey, Bailey. Look at Lucy”
“Yeah. Looks like she is up and at em today.”
“Yeah, you two. It is too hot to play outside, so we have to think of things to do inside.
“I’m already doing it. Laying on the couch.”
“Come on Bailey you need the exercise.”
“How about you Little Potato. Want to play with this toy?”
“How do we play with it?”
“Right now it looks like a nice stole on you.”
“But that is not the intent of this toy. You grab it.”
“Then what?”
“You shake it like you would a wild pig.”
“Oh, my. Wild pig? Where do we find wild pigs?”
“Pay no attention to Lucy. She thinks she is a medieval hunting dog.”
“That is what I was bred for, Bailey.”
“So Twiggy. You shake the prey until you break its neck.”
“Ew. I don’t think I can do that.”
“Yeah, Lucy she’s a puppy and a French Bulldog not a hulk like you.”
“There you go, Twiggy. Tear out its throat.”
“Lucy for heaven’s sake. Frenchies are not hunters.”
“What do they do then?”
“They had been bred for non-sporting reasons since at least 1800, and so their use changed from a sporting breed to a companion breed.”
“Yeah, so can we get Lucy to let go of my neck.”
“Oh sorry, Little One. Got carried away with the hunt.”
“That’s it. I’m taking the prey . . . er, the toy.”
“I will be careful.”
“I think you need a time out.”
“You are not my mother.”
“You want me to tell mom?
“Okay, Time to rest little one.”
“Ah. It is so nice to have you as a big sister, Lucy.”
“Hear that big game hunter.”
“Yeah, I hear it. Thank you, Twiggy. It’s nice to have a little sister too.
So cute!
These guys are adorable, John.
I understand too hot to play outside up here. What constitutes too hot on the Gulf?

Heat index of 110 is really too hot. It has been about 99 or so. Little Twiggy needs to be protected from the heat. She would be out there no matter what. Thanks, Dan.

One sign of summer around here is the disappearance of the dog-walkers. What business needs to be done is done quickly; the rest of the time, humans and canines alike follow your crew’s lead and stay indoors. Even the shade’s been too hot to linger in.

Thank you, Linda. It has been one of those summers for sure.

She does look a bit like a potato, now that you bring it up. Mine get confined to the house about 8:00 AM. Prior to that I try to give them some yard time.

The get out as needed during the day, but only to do their business. Most playtime is indoors right now.

John, it’s too hot outside in Southern CA these days for doggie play or walks. We wait until 8:PM and Sammy & Charley still pant! It’s amazing how Bailey & Lucy have totally accepted little Twiggy. Love the dialogue & photos! Makes me smile! 📚 Christine

I get so upset seeing people out there walking their pets in the hot son with no water or foot protection from the hot pavement. I’m glad you keep your babies inside, John. There’s plenty of time for walks in the evening 🙂

Yes, we are very aware of the hot sun. We use sunscreen on Lucy as well. Thanks, Jacquie.

That was a fun romp. You must get hours of entertainment from the lot!
Zeke and I went for a very short walk around the block… He’s a long-haired German Shepherd and has been panting beside me since. Silly boy was hoping the walk would last longer than 10-15 minutes! Poor guy really wanted to go – it’s hotter than Hades here, too and the humidity is a killer – despite saying it 79, it really feels like 97. Why bother saying the former if what we feel is the latter?

I know right. Tell it like it is. When out feet stick to the asphalt we know how hot it is.

Takes being “one with the earth” a little too literally!

Aw, 110º F is way too hot to play outside. They’re such good doggies. Although Lucy’s got a wild imagination. Ha, ha! I hope the temperature has gotten more tolerable, John.

It’s 35 degrees in London which is very hot for us, no air conditioning Brits, I’m melting at night, the usual green grass is all gold and it’s very very unusual to have no rain. People keep being silly and leave their dogs in cars and walk them on super hot pavements I keep reading warnings on twitter and Facebook.
