“Hey, Little one. How about a game of Jolly ball.”
“Um. I’m kind of busy right now.”
“Busy? Doing what?”
“I’m looking for acorns.”
“Acorns? You know you are not supposed to chew those. They’re not good for dogs.”
“I’m not going to chew them.”
“What are you going to do then?”
“I’m going to use them as bait for that pesky squirrel.”
“You gotta be kidding me. Look this ball is a sure thing. You’ll never get that squirrel.”
“Well, rather than chase it, I’ll lay a couple of acorns down and when it comes to get them I’ll pounce like a mama lion.”
“Okay then. I’m going to go get some rays.”
“Where did all the acorns go anyway?”
“I hate to tell you but Mom comes out here and picks them up.”
“Well, no wonder.”
“So you might just as well come over and take in the sun too.”
“I just can’t imagine Mom coming out here to pick them up.”
“She doesn’t want you to get sick, Dufus.”
“Aww, you think so?”
“I know so. Also, she hates it when you sit in those rocks.”
“Why. I like them. They are nice and warm.”
“Yes, and you get ant bites over there.”
“Not all the time. Just once in a while. You gonna move over or what?”
Poor little Twiggy…she seems to get busted no matter what she does. I’m with her trying to keep those pesky squirrels away. Looks like a beautiful day, John!

It sounds like there’s a fear Twiggy will eat almost anything. Ant bites can be nasty, especially red ants. Good pictures, John. 🙂 — Suzanne

She is getting better. As she gets older she doesn’t go after everything. Sticks and acorns are still on her favorite list though. Thanks, Suzanne.

Trevor loved helping to dig in France. Sadly, he almost invariably managed to dig an ants’ nest. Poor boy suffered so much for that!

So Twiggy is one of those squirrel-crazy dogs – plus, just another example of her ignoring Lucy’s wisdom.

That’s interesting about the acorns not being good for dogs. I didn’t know that. I used to go out and pick up the acorns for my pet squirrel. I was the only one in the neighborhood with acorns in my freezer.

I’m pea-green over your sunshine, John. We’ve had more than our share of gray days, a real challenge for those with long-haired dogs! The girls are fortunate they have parents who take such good care of them — picking up acorns is hard on backs!

Tell me about the back. Lucky for me The Producer is the acorn scout. (she has better eyes too)

Acorns and oak leaves contain a combination of gallic acid and tannic acid which can be harmful to pets. Causes stomach problems.

Ha ha … my mother lived on South Padre Island, Texas, and I’ll never forget one time when we had snow and temperatures in the single-digits, she called me to complain that it was freezing where she was — the temps had dropped into the 60s! 🙄 I hung up on her. 😄
