“Hey, Twiggy. I hear Mom coming in from outside.”

“What’s the big deal? She does that all the time.”

“Since it’s your birthday, I think she has a surprise.”

“A surprise? What kind of surprise?”

“Go to the dining room and take a look.”

“I certainly smell something up there. I can’t reach it, though.”

“What does it smell like?”

“Offhand, I would say yogurt and peanut butter.”

“Yeah, from here, I think that’s a good guess. Oh, here comes mom with a car seat.”

“Now we’re talking. I can jump right up here.”

“Hold on, Little Potato. I think mom and the boss want to sing Happy Birthday.”

“I forget how it goes.”

    Ha. It’s OK, John. We have one picture, from 36 years of having Irish Setters, of a setter wearing a green hat on St. Patrick’s Day. I think it took forever for my wife to manage. It was before photo-editing was available to us.

Don’t worry about the hat. I put a set of antlers on Dixie Rose the same way. Just so you know, you’re not the only ones who celebrate with great panache. I know a woman in Kansas who makes her dog an elk birthday cake every year, with mashed potato frosting. (She shoots the elk, too.)
