“What the heck is all this mess?”
“I don’t know, Little One, but I suspect the Boss has been watching a do-it-yourself video.”
“This trench is all filled with water. That can’t be right.”
“I would agree. Where is the Boss anyway?”
“I don’t know, but it looks like a lot of dirt that needs putting back.”
“I suspect the Boss dug that out of the trench.”
“Hey, Dad. What’s up with the skinny swimming hole?”
“That is a trench for the downspout extension, Twiggy. That black hose will be connected to carry the water away.”
“Why the extensions?”
“We are getting ready for some new turf, Twiggy. Artificial turf, so the nightmare of the lawn will be over.”
“OOOOkay, but I suspect something went awry here.”
“You are brilliant. After I dug the trench and before I could connect the hose, a downpour came and filled the trench with water.”
“Can we play in it? Hey, I think I see something.”
“No, it is muddy water, and you don’t want to get dirty. What you see is probably your reflection.”
“I know my reflection, and I also know I don’t have a dorsal fin.”
“Wait, a minute, Little One. Let me see that.”
“There. Right there. Did you see it move?”
“I hate to say this, Twiggy, but I hear the themes music from Jaws in my head.”
“Lucy, wait for me. Why’d you run off?”
“I figured whatever was in there would like an appetizer before the main course.”
“That’s pretty funny.”
Oh, John! Looks like happy DIY days, lols. Hope you get it sorted soon 🙂

Bad luck with the rain, John. I’d definitely get someone in to do that job – a local lad who needs the work, of course.

I did get a bid. $25.00 a foot. Comes to a total of more than $250.00 per trench. There are three. I believe in supporting the locals, but when they value their work too far above what is reasonable I have to go my own way. 😁

Shame about the rain. Good thinking about the turf. I’ve considered it, too.
I laughed aloud at the Jaws theme and appetizer comment. Too funny. Give the girls ear scratches from me. Seems they had quite a scare!

You do pick up their dialogue pretty well, but I think you left out Twiggy’s response to your suggestion that “it is muddy water, and you don’t want to get dirty.” If I heard her right, she said, “Oh, yeah? Sez who?”

She did dive in after the photos were done and I needed to spray off her paws and under carriage. She was not fond of the hose treatment. Thanks, Linda.

Great dialogue, John. It looks like you have your hands full with this project. A lot of rain fell in our area too, and everyone had to take cover. I’m hoping you get plenty of sunshine today — and cooler temps. 😊

The temps are going up but we are expecting rain on Friday. Got to get their trench done. before then. Thanks, Gwen.

I snorted out loud over the dorsal fin comment. Now Bond is looking at me like I’m weird.

Sorry about the rain, John, but after the hot temperatures you had, I’m sure you needed it to cool things down.

I have had it. Two complete lawns installed in the last two years. (different varieties) Too much heat, shade, and dog traffic. Lets see how the artificial holds up.

For a minute the girls had me believing there might be a shark in that canal! I expected Twiggy to fall in. Take it easy, John. I am impressed with your work.

After the photo she went in and got rewarded with a hose spray. Not her favorite. Thanks, Jo.

Artificial turf? That’s one way to avoid weed whacking. Will it stand up to the girl’s mayhem?

It is the pet addition with extra strength and plenty of drainage. I think they will like it.

Hey John, could you run that line up here? We’re in a serious drought, about six inches short of rainfall. All the storms are missing us.
I know it is a long way…..but think about it.

I’ll think about it. A lot of drought conditions around. I hope the wild rice is okay.

Jaws is perfect – yet I wonder if Twiggy will ever learn Lucy’s wisdom. Going with artificial turf?
LikeLiked by 2 people
Yup. Artifical turf. I have put in two complete lawns in two years. A combo of heat, drought, and dogs has caused me to go over the edge. July 19th is the installation date for the special dog high drainage turf that will end my angst.
