“Lucy. You want to play ball?”
“Gee, I was just getting ready for a sunbath.”
“But that little stip of the sun will be bigger later. The ball’s behind you.”
“Still nice and warm out here.”
“Take a turn with the ball.”
“Okay, I’ll toss it.”
“Did you toss it? I don’t see it.”
“It went maybe half an inch. It’s hard to toss with my mouth.”
“For heaven’s sake. I guess we need Dad for a game of ball.”
“I would say so. Go inside and see if he can come out. Meanwhile, I’ll wait here.”
“Hey, do you hear that?”
“I heard his hoof noises. Did you see that spider?”
“Not from over there. Let me look closer.”
“He was right here.”
“Yeah, sure, Twiggy. I think you were seeing and hearing things.”
“I can still smell him.”
“I think he took off over the fence.”
“Okay, so we don’t have a spider to play with. What’s next?”
“Let’s try another ball.”
“That one is much like the first.”
“You’re telling me? Let’s go find Dad.”
“What are you going to say?”
“We need to play ball, and we need someone with an opposable thumb to throw it.”
“Will he know what opposable means?”
“He’s a writer. He can always look it up if he’s stumped.”
“Good deal.”
Come on John, get that opposable thumb outside and give he girls some exercise. You can slave away on a hot book when they get to doze in the sunshine.
Hugs.

Too funny. Thanks for the Thursday smiles. Give the girls belly rubs from me.

How about buying a ball launching machine? GIves Twiggy a chance to return the ball to the machine for another launch.

They are only after your well-being, you know. They say it’s all about them, needing you to throw the ball but they know you need to stretch off that writing chair now and again!

If you exercise that opposable thumb you will be better prepared for holding onto those three fingers.

Yes. Once that sun is in the yard full everyone needs to be in the A/C. Of course it only lasts an hour till the shade takes over.

You’ve gotta hand it to the girls — they know how to distract you from work! And hey, since it’s almost the weekend, a rousing game of Fetch sounds pretty entertaining. Looks like you did a world of good with that new lawn.

Your backyard looks so nice, John. We’re in such a severe drought that more grasses are brown because of water restrictions. That’s what ours looks like now in the backyard, I’m a little “green” with envy. But hopefully, more rain will come this year. Anyway, the girls and their dialogue are entertaining as ever. 🙂

I hope you had fun playing ball with the pups … but did you have to look up ‘opposable’?
LikeLiked by 2 people
No I have used it before. 😁

Whew! The spider escaped!
Perhaps you can build a ball launcher? Lucy can place the ball in the cup/launcher. Twiggy can step a paw on the lever, and the ball goes upPUP!
They can switch roles at will. Then, they won’t need your opposable thumb anymore.
Just a thought.
