Thursday – A Little Personal – Twiggy and Lucy Think About 2022

Well, Little One, the year 2021 is almost finished.”

“Do we get another one?”

“Why yes, we get another one. It’s called 2022.”

“So why do the years keep changing?”

“Gee, no one has ever asked me that before.”

“You have to wonder. The same question could be, why do the clocks change?”

“The years change because humans need to mark time. They want to know where they’ve been and where they are going.”

“What about the clocks?”

“You have me there, Little One. I can’t think of a good answer.”

“Anything special we need to do when the year changes?”

“We can make up some New Year resolutions.”

“You have to explain more about that. What are resolutions?”

“So many questions. Let’s just say you promise yourself that you will be a better dog in the next year.”

“I thought I was the best I could be already.”

“For instance. Maybe you not bark the UPS person to St Louis.”

“Oh, so resolutions are giving up what you love to do?”

“No, I think it is more thinking of others more than yourself.”

“So the UPS guy doesn’t like the barking, and if I gave it up, he would be happier?”

“You have hit the nail on the head, Little One. I think you have the idea.”

“Between you and me? That’s not going to happen. I’ll have to think of another resolution. Maybe giving up snowboarding.

“Well, you work on it. In the meantime, I hope Dad resolves to do something about these leaves.

  1. I think I’ve outgrown resolutions or at least they’ve faded far into the sunsets of life. You’ve tackled it well through the pups, John. Giving up snowboarding seems like a good resolution to me. 😁

  2. That resolution to give up snowboarding reminds me of our junior high resolutions to give up watermelon during Lent. Legalism always can find a way out, as it seems Twiggy already has discovered! Happy New Year to them both — and to you!

  3. Happy New year, Lucy and Twiggy! Dot and Lia are not going to stop barking at everyone who walks by our place either. Wishing a wonderful year ahead to you and your Mom and Dad.XO

    1. Thank you Tim. As an aside I graduated from Michigan State University and you have nailed that part of the geography in the Valley Walker. I also spent 70 days in Sparrow hospital after a car accident and spent 3 years working at my first job in Lansing MI. (Small world)

  4. I resolve to keep reading Lucy and Twiggy. Hilarious – especially ‘I thought I was the best I could be already’ and ‘thinking of others more than yourself’. A lot of life lessons in this post. Hugs and pets to the girls!

  5. The New Year Eve’s summit at the Twiggy Resort has left too many questions to be pondered in 2022. For a better life, better gods, better squirrels & better deer. 🎄🥂🎉😁

  6. I think Twiggy has it right. Besides, resolutions are just an assured way of feeling like a failure because who in the hell actually follows through? Just BEing is the way to go, I say…
    Happy New Year’s Eve Eve!

    1. Yes, The UPS guy would be lost. Thank you on the flowers and vines. The cross vines are doing really well. We have struggled with the hibiscus but I think we found its happy place. Our hanging baskets are doing really well and at the end of January they will get a redo. It has taken some time to find out where everyone is happy. Thanks again, Jacquie.

        1. We originally wanted to have Jasmine but the landscaper told us they attract snakes. Of course, we didn’t want that so we went for Cross-vines. They get an orange trumpet like flower twice a year. Not sure they are hardy though.

  7. Twiggy, you will bark the UPS guy to St. Louis, even Tulsa if I remember. Snowboarding resolution? Hmmm… Well, maybe Dad will do the leaves. 🙂

  8. My one and only New Year’s resolution for quite a few years now is not to have one. 😀 That;s the one I can easily keep.
A Happy New Year to you and yours, John,

        1. I can hear the apologists already. Listen, the man definitely needs help and I hope he gets it. But it’s obvious the sport is not where he should be. This is a tough business and if your mind isn’t where it needs to be, bad shit is going to happen. On the field and off.

  9. I already saw that you cleaned up the leaves.
Did you make a nice big pile for Lucy and Twiggy to jump & play in?
Yes giving up snowboarding UPS guys sounds good. Although regular skiing UPS guys could get barked at!
