Thursday – A Little Personal – Twiggy and Lucy

“It looks like the noise monster has taken the leaves.”

“You have to believe the boss took care of them, Little One.”

“I kinda miss them. I liked the smell.”

“I don’t like walking on them. Those oak leaves stick to my paws.”

“You coming out to the patio?”

“I think I might take a sunbath here on the turf.”

“It gets mighty hot out there.”

“Yeah, but on these old bones, it sure feels good.”

“I think I’ll just enjoy the shade.”

“That is a good thing too.”

“You have to wonder what the stray dogs are doing now?”

“What brought that up?”

“Oh, I don’t know. We have such a nice life. I just don’t want to take it for granted.”

“You are sounding pretty philosophical today, Little One.”

“I suppose I am. Not to change the subject, but did you hear that?”

“Says the old philosopher with the attention span of a gnat.”

“What? I didn’t hear you.”

“I said I didn’t hear that.”

“Yeah, it was nothing.”

“Figures.”

We believe our dog was a stray at one time. We keep telling her how fortunate she is to end up with us. She yawns. By the way, ‘lawn’ looks great. Have a great day!

I don’t see a book in Twiggy’s future, seeing as how she can’t settle on a thought for more than a half minute or so. However, a Twiggy Haiku? Yeah . . . I could dig on that.

I hate the “noise monsters” as well, but unlike ‘the girls,’ I like the crunch of oak leaves at my feet. And the philosophy – or really, empathy – is well placed. I feel that way every time I take a shower and think of those displaced/homeless who can’t do so.

Sometimes it is. Of course these two are rescues and I think sometimes Lucy remembers those days. Twiggy was eight weeks old when we got her so she has no memory. Funny she is the one doing the thinking.
