Thursday – A Little Personal – Vacation

Lucy“Hi, Boss.”

“Hi, Lucy. What is going on?”

“Last week Bailey, Stella, and I had time off.”

“I know. You guys do anything interesting?”

Lucy, Bailey, and Stella

“Well, we took a morning dip in the pool. Of course, a dove interrupted us. Pesky thing anyway.”

“Too fast for you huh?”

“Then we went for a walk and ran into our friend on the beach. He was on his golf cart.”

“He looks glad to see you.”

“We built a sandcastle too.”

“Sandcastle? That looks like a bone.”

“All in the eye of the beholder, Boss.”

“I decided to dig a hole to China. Bailey wouldn’t help.”

“I think Baily probably had a realistic view of where China  was located.”

“Huh?”

“Never mind. What was next?”

“We went to the candy store and put out heads in a cutout. You should see Bailey.”

“I don’t think she enjoyed it.”

“Looks that way.”

“I told Bailey we needed a snow cone. I’m trying to decide on the liver or bacon flavor.”

“What flavor did Bailey get?”

“What do you think? Kibble flavor. Out of hundreds, she gets Kibble.”

“I decided it might be fun to get tattooed. Guess who put the kibosh on the idea?”

“Um…Bailey?”

“Bingo.”

“Happy hour at the Salty Dog. What a blast.”

“Did they serve you?”

“We got carded, and we left out ID at home. We ordered water. We did see a Texas hold ’em game though.”

“At the marina, we were waiting for the Pirate boat to come by. You can just see it off to the right. Bailey kept looking at a gull.”

“She is like that for sure.”

” We took some time on the playground equipment. Those slides were fun.”

Lucy and Bailey

“We finally had to head home and take a little nap.”

“What was Stella doing all this time?”

“Not sure. Ask her.”

“Stella, what were you doing on the week off?”

Stella

“You are kidding, right?

  1. What a nice week they had.
Meanwhile, I’m off to UK again tomorrow; back on Wednesday. Have a good weekend.

    1. Thanks Keith. What’s going on in the UK?

      1. Last trip was to a nephew’s wedding and to pick up father-in-law so he could have a holiday and look after the hellhounds while we were in the south of France last weekend for our daughter’s marriage. This trip is to take the old boy back again (and to see my sisters while I’m there)

      2. Drive carefully.

  2. I think I’d like to spend my week off with them. Sounds like a blast, John. However, I’d have stuck with Bailey about the tattoo.

    1. Henna only lasts four weeks. The question for Lucy is whee do we put it? Thanks, Hugh.

Ahhhh, the best vacation ever. No suitcases to pack or check-in issues, no plane delays or rough weather…..just delight! And, the cutout photos belong on a magazine cover! 🙂

    1. Ha ha ha. Thanks Gwen. I would have liked to have a video of the process. 😀

  4. Best post ever! I absolutely adored this, John! Those cutout shots are hilarious. Thanks for brightening my day!

    1. Thanks, Jill. 😀 Glad you enjoyed it.

  5. I love hearing about the gang!

    1. Thanks, Pam. 😉

  6. This is great, John. You have them nailed. The thought of a liver-flavored sno-cone isn’t doing much for my appetite, but I bet Maddie would like one. Love the photo of them napping.

    1. Thanks, Dan. 🙂

  7. They look so proud of their sandcastle. Think I’m with Stella on day off activities though.

    1. Ha ha ha. Thanks, Charles.

  8. Bailey and Lucy know how to enjoy their time off – love the sandcastle!

    1. Thanks, Teri. We did too.

  9. Your family is amazing, John.
    Period.

    1. Thanks, Hook. 🙂

  10. I love the way you capture the expressions on your fur babies, John.

    1. Thank you, Jan 🙂

  11. So much fun. Looks like the girls had a great vacation. These posts are the highlight of my blogging week, John.
And the last line with Stella? Perfection! 🙂

    1. Stella kills me for sure. Thanks, Mae.

  12. I love these posts. They look like they had a nice time.

    1. They did. Going in the car is the best.

  13. Hahahaa.. great photos! 😀

    1. Thank you, Sisters.

  14. Reblogged this on Words To Captivate ~ by John Fioravanti and commented:
Author John W. Howell tickles our funny bone with another entertaining episode with Lucy, Bailey, and Stella – “Vacation Report”… hilarious! Please, read on…

    1. Thank you, John.

      1. My pleasure, John. This was an excellent episode!

  15. So great, John. These “A Little Personal” entries always bring a smile to my face. Love the sandbone as well.

    1. Thanks, Phillip. Enjoyed doing it too.

  16. Cats are so secretive! Great outing with the pups, John — sounds like they had fun, too. I remember trying to dig to China when I was a kid!

    1. I think I made it almost. Thanks, Debbie.

  17. So thankful that you have shared your pets via your blog. I am petless and need vicarious pets.

    1. Stop by on Thursdays and they’ll most likely be here. Thank you.

  18. Good to hear Stella enjoyed her time ruling the roost on her lonesome – Lucy & Baily are lucky ladies! 😀

    1. Stell is the Howard Hughes of the cat world.

  19. Phffft-snort! Somebody walked past my office just as Stella’s parting comment cracked me up. LOL. It was a delight to get a neighborhood tour from the girls, John. Do we eventually get Bailey’s side of the story? Have a fun-filled thriving Thursday!

    1. Ha ha ha Teagan. I laughed out loud when I put her piece in myself.

Makes me want to go on a dog vacation:)

    1. Me too. It was fun taking them around

  21. Great vacation post, John. Through the eyes of the dogs! Bet you got the dialogue just right! We do that kind of talk with our dogs, their supposed speech too. Happy Thursday! 🎶 Christine

    1. Thank you, Christine

  22. Those girls are something else! The cutout sign was hilarious!! And poor Bailey is always the voice of reason. I think Lucy needs to be checked for tattoo’s … Max swears he saw her at Paws & Claws getting one…something about her sneaking out 😄Your last line though… purfect!

    1. Thank you Max and Elizabeth. I looked Lucy over and she is clear,

  23. WOW, guys. What a great time off you got to do. I’ve never gotten to do so many things in just one day in my entire life – and you sure have a lot of water near where you live! We just have one tiny pond near me. We don’t even have one of those snow-cone stores here — but kibble? I didn’t know ANYBODY liked those health chunks. I’d go for the bacon (unless they had chicken). I’m not sure about that tattoo either – but nobody would ever see it under all my hair anyway.

Mom’s letting me Guest-Post on her blog again for National Dog Day, so I’ll add you to my list of “relateds,” hoping to give some of the 2-legses the idea of some things they could do with their 4-legses to celebrate the day (she makes me follow her format and she’s big on links).

Watch for a ping on August 26th.

    Woof! TINK

    1. Thank you for writing Think. Bailey and I love to go out.Our mom drives us everywhere and we love her dearly. I have to thank Bailey for stopping the Tattoo madness. She is always so reasonable. Will look out on the 26th and come visit you. Nice chatting, Tink ARF -Lucy

      1. I love to go out too, and to ride in the car – but today it was raining so hard that I had to stay in the car with Uncle Jason while Mom went into the store where she usually takes me too. NO fun!
        Woof! TINK

      2. I know how you feel. We don’t get rain much but Bailey and I don’t like it at all when we do. ARF Lucy

  24. They earned that nap!

As for Stella . . . she’s always on point.

    1. She is. Thanks, Pilgrim.

  25. Thursdays brighten my day. Adorable! !!

    1. Thank you, Audrey

  26. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 Your vacation story brought us many laughs, thank you.
What a great gang you have, John!
Wishing you a lovely weekend ahead,
    The Fab Four of Cley

    1. Thank you. These guys are pretty funny for sure.

  27. Adorable! Nice to see them out doing the tourist things. Stella was probably grateful to have them gone! TGIF to you, John!

    1. She was. It seems Bailey has taken to drinking out of Stella’s water bowl and she is not pleased.

  28. I love these stories, John. Lucy and Stella are so funny. A bit of Abbot and Costello.

    1. Thank you, Jennie. Yes a little bit.

      1. You are welcome, John.

  29. Another gem, John! Thanks for sharing. 🙂 I’m in catch-up mode today!

    1. Not to worry. Walk don’t run.
