Thursday – A little Personal – Daylight Savings Time

Lucy

“Hey, Boss.”

“Well, hello Lucy. You look like you have a problem.”

“Well, I certainly do. What time is it anyway?”

“It is ten minutes after four.”

“You aren’t serious? It has to be after five. My stomach is telling me it’s after five.”

Stella

“OMG. Best tell her about Daylight Savings Time, John.”

“Thanks, Stella. I think you’re right. ”

“Okay, Boss, so you and Stella have some kind of secret. How about letting me in on it?”

“We changed our clocks so that we will save daylight in the winter. Todays four o’clock was yesterday’s five o’clock.”

“Wait. I didn’t change my stomach. I’m hungry now.”

Stella

“I think you are in trouble now, John.”

“Thank you, Stella. I can handle this. Do you understand, Bailey?”

Bailey

“Sure do, Pops. You humans can’t see well in the dark so you alter every nonhuman’s dinner time so that you won’t hit anything when you go outside at night. I’m so weak I don’t think I’m going to make it.”

“You’ll be fine, Bailey. I have to say your explanation makes some kind of warped sense. You understand now Lucy?”

Lucy

“Yeah. I think it means I got to gut it out for forty-five minutes till dinner time”

“I knew you would get there , John. Nice job.”

I think I must be half-canine because I am always confused with daylight savings time. Then again, maybe being half-retired leads to confusion. 🙂 Great photos, John. Your little ladies have amazing camera presence, absolutely captivating.

I’m fully on-board with Lucy and Bailey on this one. I don’t know why we can’t stop messing with time. Standard Time is fine with me. Let it get light when the sun rises. Lucy is just too cute for words.

I see. We’ll call it preparing things in advance. With animals, you never know when they’ll behave for the camera, so take the shots when you can.

So true. The story formed up when Lucy was asking for food.

We should cancel DST for the animals. They didn’t sign up for this confusion.

We went through this last week in UK – it makes transatlantic time zones go completely goofy as they ‘spring forward & fall back’ on different dates! Those time changes are never worth the extra hour in bed though… Last Sunday seemed so looooooooooong!

What a clever take on pets and daylight savings time. I just went through the same thing with my cat, Raven. She has since adjusted to the new feeding schedule, but it was a challenge for the first few days.
That last shot of Lucy says it all if you’re a pet 🙂

Awww, poor Lucy was hungry. I relate. It’s the same with children. They don’t understand why they don’t get to play outside anymore before dinner because it’s dark already. So, their solution was to bring the tricycle and bicycle into the house. 🙂

Oh yeah! Tink reminds me every night when it is “greenie time” — he gets one a day to help keep his teeth and gums healthy, shortly before bedtime.) He loves them. Since Sunday he has been reminding me one hour earlier!

Altho’ I posted my latest funnies about DST hoping to lighten my own mood about the hassle of changing each of my many clocks (no internal sense of time so I have them practically everywhere), DST is really crazier than it is funny!

What will it take to stop this nonsense?

There doesn’t seem to be a way to stop the nonsense. It’s like atom bombs. When asked why we need them the answer is always because we need them. Why DST? To save daylight of course. Thanks, Madelyn.

I can’t even believe the farmers like it. To have a couple of hundred cows off schedule can’t be pleasant.

I never thought about that, John. I wonder if the exposure to light regulates those cows somehow, since I’ve never read similar complaints from farmers.

For those of you who in the US have just moved your clocks back, spare a thought for our four-legged family whose body clocks do not move in sync. John Howell’s tribe are a good example. I always took Sam a good week to get into the swing of getting his dinner an hour later… only he was less polite about it than Lucy and Bailey.. As for Stella, she is just a know it all….
