“Hey, Lucy. What do you want to play?
“I think we could play tag.”
“Sounds good to me. How about you’re it.”
“Yeah, I think that is about right.”
“Don’t catch me too soon, Lucy.”
“Geez, kid I gave you a fifteen length head start.”
“Okay, you got me. Now I’m it.”
“You almost make me laugh Little one. You catch me? I don’t think so.”
“Go ahead and run, Lucy. I’ll give you a head start.”
“I guess I could saunter off, Twiggy.”
“So I got you.”
“You sure did, Little Potato.”
“I was wondering.”
“Uh, I always hate it when you are wondering.”
“Is Bailey at the hospital again?”
“No Little one she isn’t. She feels fine and is in a wonderful place.”
“Will we see her again?”
“Yes, we will all be together again.”
“I sure miss her.”
“We all do, Little One. But, don’t worry. She is very happy, and we should be happy for her. Now, it is my turn to be it.”
Beautiful, John. The sentiments and the setting, both are beautiful. May you and your loved ones find solace in knowing Bailey had a terrific life because of your family’s love for her. ♥

Thank you so much, Gwen. The transition from physical presence to spiritual is painful but welcome.

[…] as it were, I’d be remiss if I didn’t thank two others. At some point in the summer of 2015, John W. Howell suggested that I should attempt to lose the introductory paragraphs and focus on tagless dialog. […]

This is sweet, John. I tend to think animals understand more than we give them credit for. I think Lucy and Twiggy understand. It’s good that Twiggy has an older sister, and that she’d in the care of s loving family – just like Bailey was.

Everyone has to adapt to the gaps that appear in life. It looks as though they’re doing well, and it’s clear they’ll have the loving attention they need. There’s no question they’ll help fill your gap, too.

Twiggy has been especially good at gap filling. She is such a pistol and cannot help but bring laughter. Thank you, Linda.

Aw, this is just so sweet, John. I can almost hear these two having this very same conversation! Yes, I’m sure they miss Bailey as y’all do, but I think they know she’s whole again — and what a lovely reunion that will be one day! Hugs to you all.

Oh, John, these photos are priceless and the dialogue even more so. I know those two miss Bailey, but maybe they truly do understand on some level beyond what we do. Hugs for all!

I think they knew how ill Bailey was, Jan. Twiggy would sit with her and lick Bailey’s paws. Very tender moments. Thank you.

Can barely see through the tears in my eyes, John. This was perfection. Life moves forward, even when we miss someone we love.

I thought about Lucy and Twiggy when I read the post Bailey’s at Peace. I think they had a (dogs) sense that Bailey was failing. Their dialogue is beautiful, you created wonderful spiritual words for Lucy and Twiggy! 🐶 Christine

I certainly believe that dogs can sense illness and loss. Lucy will be the strong one for Twiggy.

Thanks for letting Lucy and Twiggy tell us the news. That alone probably caused Bailey first smile. Meanwhile, strength to everyone dealing with loss.
